Framis

Zone-based window manager for macOS. Click a zone, pick a window.

Framis is a zone-based window manager for macOS. It flips the usual tiling flow: choose where a window should land, then choose which window goes there.

Why it exists

Most window managers start from the active window. Framis starts from the layout. That matters when you are arranging several apps at once and care more about the workspace shape than the currently focused app.

What Framis is good at

  • Setting up a coding workspace with editor, terminal, and preview in seconds.
  • Rebuilding a familiar layout after switching tasks.
  • Working visually with zones while still staying keyboard-friendly.
  • Start with Installation if you want to get the app running.
  • Read Permissions before troubleshooting missing window control.
  • Use Quick Start for the shortest path to daily usage.
  • Open Arrange Mode to understand the dedicated mode that drives every interaction.
  • Browse Layouts and Zones for the full list of presets that ship with the app.
